Kovex Rawify was written because the tools kept failing the photographs. It is sold the way it is because of what happened to the rest of them.
A great blue heron, photographed in the rain, with a chest of long pale plumes. Every masking tool found the outline of the bird and stopped there. Lifting the exposure lifted the body and left every plume behind, sitting dark against a brightened bird.
That is not a small complaint. It is the difference between a photograph you can finish and one you delete. So the masking was rewritten to follow each filament outward, step over the grass blades it crosses, and let the matting decide how much of every pixel is bird.
Everything else here came the same way — a photograph that would not come out right, and no tool that would fix it.
Somewhere along the way, editing a photograph stopped being something you could do with software you owned. The tools moved to a monthly fee. The catalogue moved to someone else's computer. The files came with terms that changed without asking.
Stop paying and you lose access to your own work. Cancel early and there is a fee for the privilege. Go somewhere without signal and you find out what your software really needs to run.
A photographer should not have to keep paying to open a photograph they already took.
So this is sold once. A hundred dollars, three computers, yours. It works offline because there is nothing it needs to phone home about. There is no subscription to cancel, no cancellation fee, no account that can be closed with your catalogue inside it.
There is no recurring payment, so there is nothing to stop and no fee for stopping it. Buy it and it is done.
Your photographs stay on your disk and your catalogue stays in an open format. Nobody else holds them, so nobody else can lose them.
The licence has no end date. Version 1 keeps getting free updates, and buying now does not put you on a countdown.
It checks a licence once, when you activate. After that it works on a mountain with no signal, indefinitely.
The photographs on this site are of animals that live somewhere. Herons need the marsh, deer need the woodland, and both are worth less to almost everybody than what the land would fetch built on.
The goal is to buy some of it and leave it alone. Not as a marketing line and not as a promise with a number attached — there is nothing to report yet, because this has only just gone on sale. But it is what the money is for, and it is worth saying out loud so it stays the plan.
If that happens, it will be said here plainly, with what was bought and where. Photographing wildlife for years makes it fairly obvious what wildlife is short of, and it is not photographs.
This is not a company with a support department. It is one person who takes photographs of birds and got tired of fighting the software, and it is written by the person who answers the email.
That cuts both ways, and the good side is worth having: bugs get fixed by the person who wrote the code, the roadmap is decided by what people keep asking for, and there is nobody to escalate past.
